                Thumbnail Biography

After high school, I attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.c., for two years.

In September of 1967, I joined the U.S. army.  I served for one year with the 4th Infantry Division in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam.  I returned to the United States in June of 1970 and was discharged honorably.

In the spring of 1976, I graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in philosophy.

The following September I began studying at the University of Connecticut School of Law.  There I participated in the Criminal Defense Clinic and appeared in court and at other hearings on behalf of criminal defendants.  I was also a member of the National Moot Court team and served on the Moot Court board.  During the summer of 1978 I had just a small taste of police work on the Oak Bluffs, MA (Martha's Vineyard) police force.  When I graduated in May of 1979,  I receive a Juris Doctor degree.   In September I moved to Cape Cod.  That fall I learned that I had passed the  Massachusetts bar exam.  I was admitted to practice in December 1979.

In the spring of 1981, I was hired by the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney.  I served in that position through the end of 1985.

I have been in private practice since January 1986.  In 1988 the Committee for Public Counsel Services approved my application for placement on its Murder List.  Over the next fifteen years I represented many indigent defendants in murder cases, both at trial and on appeal.

For two years, 1992-93, I wrote a monthly Op-Ed column for the Cape Cod times.  During the next few years, several of my magazine articles were published.  I taught courses for the American Paralegal Institute and for Anna Maria college.

My hobbies and interests include swimming, juggling, guitar playing, pool and billiards, chess, philosophy and theology.
